Sep 14, 2024 – If you do goat farming then keep these things in mind, milk and meat production will be bumper

Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Manoj Kumar Agarwal said that goats should be given green fodder regularly. Berseem, cowpea or green grass are very beneficial for dairy goats. These grasses are rich in nutrients and promote milk production. Dry fodder can also be given to goats in the form of dry leaves of acacia, pigeon pea, gram, pea husk, green gram and black gram. Dry fodder is a good option in the absence of green fodder.

Dr. Agarwal said that to get good production from goats, feed them grains as well. Grains contain protein, minerals and vitamins which are essential for goats. You can feed them grains specially made for goats available in the market. Feed the goats grains at least twice a day.

He said, goats should always be given fresh and clean water. The ratio of green fodder, dry fodder and grains should be about 15: 65: 20. An average dairy goat should be given about 3.5 to 5 kg of fodder daily. The diet should contain adequate amounts of protein, minerals and vitamins. A goat needs four times the amount of water as compared to the dry matter of the feed given to it; dairy goats require 1.3 liters of water for every liter of milk. The housing of dairy goats should be clean, safe and comfortable so that they remain healthy and give more milk. There should be adequate ventilation in the housing to avoid heat in summer and cold in winter. There should be no moisture in the housing. Diseases can spread due to moisture. There should be adequate light in the housing, but there should be no direct sunlight. Each goat should get at least 10 square feet of space.
